“Due to reduced demand for our services, we are making temporary changes to our schedules, such as reducing train carriages or cancelling trains with minimal impact on customers, with convenient alternatives to similar shifts,” Amtrak said in a statement.

Amtrak also announced a free change fee, exempting all purchased tickets and bookings made before April 30.

Amtrak says it is increasing the frequency of cleaning services on trains and stations to several times a day, or in some cases, once an hour. In addition, the frequency of using disinfectantto to wipe the armrests, door handles and surfaces has been increased.
