A Google spokesman confirmed Monday that google has restricted all visitors to its Mountain View headquarters and other offices in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York city as the COVID-19 coronavirus spreads. The company has also taken other steps, including recommending that employees in Japan and South Korea work from home, allowing employees in other regions to telecommute, and canceling all “foreseeable future” interviews to “protect the health of candidates and interviewers.” “
The spokesman added that as the situation at COVID-19 changes, the “rules of thumb” for each office will come from the CDC and WHO regional health guidance.
The latest measures come as Alphabet, Google’s parent company, tries to mobilize more than 300,000 employees to deal with the crisis. Executives, including CEO Sundar Pichai and Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat, urged employees to stay motivated to run Google’s global infrastructure in response to changing events and concerns about the spread of the virus.
